  • 4 lbs apples (approximately 10 small to medium apples)
  • ½ cup apple juice (or cider)
  • 1 Tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground cloves
  • ¼ tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Core and chop the apples into chunks (peeling is optional) and place them in a large stock pot.
  2. Add apple juice, lemon juice, brown sugar, cinnamon, cloves, and salt to the pot.
  3. Stir well and cover; cook over medium-low heat at a simmer for about 1-2 hours until apples are soft.
  4. Use an immersion blender to puree the mixture until smooth.
  5. Return the pureed mixture to medium-low heat and cook for an additional 30-60 minutes until thickened.
  6. Spoon hot apple butter into jars to cool and store in the refrigerator.
